This softcover book produced by Schiffer Publishing Ltd. is noted New Mexico born geologist and Navajo rug enthusiast Harold Lloyd James' (1912 - 2000) history of Navajo rug making and trading. It is a comprehensive (120 page) study covering 300 years of the art and craft of traditional Navajo rug making in the America Southwest and the trading posts that sprung up to market them. The book is filled with invaluable information regarding the Navajo people and their art, and is illustrated with
color and black & white photos as well as drawings and maps that feature not only the artisans and their rugs, but also the elements necessary for the craft and the geography that influenced the colors and designs of the rugs. There is also a great amount of advice on the proper care and display/storage of the rugs, as well as how to identify, grade and assess the value of them. This book is in new, never-read condition, tight binding, bold colors and crisp white pages.
